Experience

  • Present Appointment: At present I am working as Consultant Surgical Oncologist [Thoracic, G.I. Surgery & HPB Surgery] at S.A - Asian Institute of Oncology, Joy Hospital Chembur, Terna Sahyadri Hospital at Nerul, Navi Mumbai and Phoenix Cancer Care center Bhandup. I have been individually performing all Cancer Surgeries (Supra Major & Major) at these centers which includes Surgical procedures for Cancer Esophagus, Lung Cancer, Stomach Cancer, Gall Bladder Cancer, Pancreatic Cancer, Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Colorectal Cancers.
  • Recent Appointment: In the recent past I was working in the department of Surgical Oncology at Mahavir Cancer Sansthan – A Tertiary Cancer Care Center of Eastern India located in Patna – Bihar since 13th November 2008 for a period of Three and half years till May 2012 as a part of Diplomate of National Board training Programme in Surgical Oncology (D.N.B Surgical Oncology) I have been performing all types of Oncology Operations (Esophageal resections, Lung Resections, Mediastinal Tumors & Chest wall tumors). All types of Gastrointestinal Cancer operations (Radical Distal & Total Gastrectomy, Radical Cholecystectomy, Hepatectomy, Colectomy, Anterior resection, Abdomino Perineal resection, abdominal wall tumor excision & Reconstructions). All Gynecological Oncology Procedures (Radical Hysterectomy, Staging Laparotomy with Cytoreductive Surgery for Ovarian Cancers, Endometrial Carcinoma Surgery, Radical Vulvectomy & Para aortic Nodal dissection). I have also performed Various Composite resections, Infratemporal fossa clearance, Total Laryngo pharyngo Esophagectomy with Gastric Pull up for Laryngeal & Hypopharyngeal Cancers. I regularly performed all Endoscopic procedures (Direct Laryngoscopy, Esophago Gastroscopy, & Colonoscopy) along with esophageal stenting procedures, Bronchoscopy, Cystoscopy and both (Diagnostic and Therapeutic) Thoracoscopy.
  • Research & Clinical Trials:I have been an active member of various clinical trials at Mahavir Cancer Sansthan eg: – Litx trial for Metastatic Colorectal cancers. At present running a trial titled role of Multikine in Head & Neck Cancers. I have attended Investigators meeting scheduled at Prague Czech Republic in November 2010.
  • Surgical Oncology Training: I have been trained in Surgical Oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai as Senior Registrar (I, II, III) for a period of three years in Residency Training Programme in Surgical Oncology and One year as Research fellow (Thoracic & Breast). During this tenure as Senior Registrar I have undergone supervised training in various speciality of Surgical Oncology namely: Head & Neck, G.I. Surgery, Gynec – Oncology, Uro – Oncology, and Plastic & Reconstructive Services.

  • Senior Registrar I, Surgical Oncology: Duration- 1st August 2001- 31st July 2002
    I have worked as a senior resident through various subspecialties in Surgical Oncology such as Head and Neck, Breast, Thoracic, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary and Bone and Soft tissue services. I had wide exposure to a number of Oncological conditions with a well-organized multimodality approach to managing them. My work included daily ward rounds, care of in-patients, outpatient clinics, and the overall management of pre- and post-operative patients. I performed a wide range of oncological surgeries both independently and under supervision. I have also gained training in fibro optic bronchoscopy, direct laryngoscopy and basic laparoscopy.
  • Senior Registrar II, Surgical Oncology: From 1st Sep 2003 to 31st Aug 2004
    Worked as Senior Registrar II in Head and Neck oncology (4 months), Genitourinary and Gynecological Oncology services (4 months) and Head and Neck Oncology (4 months).
    Experience as a Senior Registrar in Head & Neck Oncology: I have performed a wide range of oncological surgeries both independently and under supervision. The surgeries performed are: composite resection of oral cancers, conservative and total laryngectomies, thyroidectomies, parotidectemies, glossectomies, and maxillectomies. Also performed reconstructive surgeries like Pectoralis Major Myocutaneous Flap (PMMC), Deltopectoral flap (DP); patch PMMC for pharyngeal defects after laryngectomies, Karapandzic flap, Abbey- Estlander flap, Tongue flap, masseter flap etc.
    Experience as a Senior Registrar in Genito Urinary & Gynec – Oncology: I have Performed both independently and under supervision the following procedures: Radical abdominal hysterectomy (Type III - Wertheim’s), Exploratory laparotomy and Cytoreductive Surgery for Ovarian cancer, Radical vulvectomy , Radical cystectomy with ileal conduit/ neobladder reconstruction, Radical nephrectomy, Ilio- inguinal lymph node dissections, Penectomies, retroperitoneal mass excision. I have also been trained in laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy and performing regular Cystoscopy evaluation.
  • Senior Registrar III in Surgical Oncology: From 1st Sep 2004 to 31st Aug, 2005
    I have worked as Senior Registrar III in Plastic and Reconstructive services (4 months), Gastrointestinal Oncology services (4 months) and Head and Neck Oncology (4 months).
    Experience as Senior Registrar in Plastic & Reconstructive Services: I have performed independently pedicled flaps such as Anterolateral thigh flap, Latissimus dorsi flap (LD), tensor fascia - lata flap, Limberg’s flap, free radial forearm flap. I have also assisted in free fibula reconstruction for mandibulectomies and femur excision, trapezius flap, perforator flaps, pedicle and free TRAM flap, deep inferior epigastric artery flap, sub mental flap. Trained in microsurgery at Ethicon Institute, Mumbai. Assisted in microsurgical free tissue transfers.
    Experience as Senior Registrar in Gastrointestinal Services: I have performed both independently and under supervision are: Abdominoperineal resections, Anterior resections, partial and total Gastrectomy with D2 Lymphadenectomy, hemi and total Colectomy, Radical cholecystectomy, Revision cholecystectomy, Pancreatico-duodenectomy (Whipple’s procedure), colostomies, closure of temporary colostomies, Resection of retroperitoneal tumors, Excision of abdominal wall tumors and other minor and major procedures. Assisted in liver resections like right and left hemi Hepatectomy, extended hemi Hepatectomy, segmentectomies and non anatomical resections. Also gained experience in laparoscopic procedures like staging laparoscopy, laparoscopic APR, and laparoscopic AR, Splenectomy.
  • Fellowship in Thoracic Surgery:
    Post - Designation: Research & Clinical Fellow in Thoracic Surgery.
    Duration - Six Months 1st Sept 2005 to 28th Feb 2006.
    Experience as Research fellow in Thoracic Oncology services included daily ward rounds, care of inpatients, outpatient clinics, and the overall management of pre- and post-operative patients. The surgeries performed both independently and under supervision are: Transthoracic Esophagectomy, Transhiatal Esophagectomy, Chest wall tumor resections, both diagnostic and therapeutic Thoracoscopy procedures. Also assisted in Lobectomy, Pneumonectomies, VATS mobilsation of esophagus and Esophagectomy and resection of Mediastinal tumors. Trained in bronchoscopy procedures.
  • Fellowship in Breast Surgery:
    Post - Designation: Research & Clinical Fellow in Breast Services.
    Duration - Three Months 1st March 2006 to 31st May 2006.
    Experience as Research fellow in Breast Services included management of outpatient clinics and the overall management of pre- and post-operative patients. The Surgeries performed both independently and under supervision are: Modified radical mastectomies, Breast conservation surgeries, and Radical mastectomies. Reconstructive procedures like Latissimus dorsi flap, TRAM flaps. Also have gained training in internal mammary artery catheterization for the purpose of giving radiotherapy to lymph nodes along the internal mammary artery. Care of patients undergoing administration of chemotherapy (both adjuvant and palliative).
  • Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery:
    Post - Designation: Research Fellow in Thoracic Surgery.
    Duration – One Year (1st August 2006 to 10th July 2007).
    Nature of work in Minimally Invasive and Thoracic Oncology services included daily ward rounds, care of inpatients, outpatient clinics, and the overall management of pre- and post-operative patients. The surgeries performed both independently and under supervision are: Transthoracic total Esophagectomy, Transhiatal Esophagectomy, Chest wall tumor resections, both diagnostic and therapeutic Thoracoscopy procedures, various Lung Resections (Lobectomy, Pneumonectomies), VATS mobilsation of esophagus and Esophagectomy and resection of Mediastinal tumors. Trained in bronchoscopy procedures.

    Duration - Six Months (10th July 2007 to 24th January 2008).
    My experience as Clinical Fellow in Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplantation Unit included daily ward rounds, care of inpatients, outpatient clinics, and the overall management of pre- and postoperative management of Liver Transplantation, Hepatic resection patients. The surgeries assisted included Donor Hepatectomy for Pediatrics as well as Adult Liver Transplantation, Total Hepatectomy of Recipient in Liver Transplantation, Major Liver Resection, Biliary diversions, Radical bile duct excision, Whipples Procedure as well as Total Pancreatectomy and Radical Cholecystectomy. It also included Interventional Radiological Procedures like Transarterial chemoembolisation (TACE), Diagnostic Angiograms, Percutaneous Transhepatic Biliary Drainage, ERCP and Stenting. Management of in patients and HDU care of patients on MARS (Liver Dialysis).
